For The Scorekeeper
First point" if you are looking for things like: "How do I get the MobileScore Application?" or "What Mobile Phones are supported?" take a look at FAQ For The Fan
General Scorekeeping
Scorekeeping is pretty straight forward and after entering just a couple of scores, you"ll be an expert! MobileScore is laid out so you"ll go click by click putting the information in:
  • Stage in the game - 1st inning, 2nd half, half time, over time, extra innings or Final,
  • The Team that scored or that the comment is about - yes, you can include great plays and added commentary,
  • Player that made the score or great play (the roster can be load from a PC or from the Mobile),
  • "Canned" comments so you don"t have to type every detail,
  • The actual score; and
  • Final edit before you submit" just in case you want to change something.
Using he Back button, you can always go back to previous screens if you need to.
Now that I"m logged in on the MobileScore Application, how to I get to the game I"m going to score?
(web access is describe below for Verizon and iPhone users)
Once logged in, you"ll come to the Main Menu, there you click on Keep Score. The next screen will list the games that are current and you are authorized to score. Simply scroll down the list until you come to the game you"ll be scoring and click.
How do I get authorized to score a game? The person/ID that "owns" the event will add your ID (mobile number) to the list of authorized scorekeepers. You"ll need to already have your ID established prior to being authorized. Authorization is accomplished in the Account Manager accessed via a PC on the web. Scorekeeper authorization is done as a precaution to keep just anyone from entering or mis-entering scores.
What is the scorekeeping process?
(web access is describe below for Verizon and iPhone users)
The Score Keeping process is like this:
  • You arrive at the field, open the MobileScore Application and click on Keep Score,
  • Scroll to the game you"ll be scoring and click,
  • You"re presented with Current Match Summary, from this page you have three choices: Enter new Score/Update, Enter BASIC Update, or Edit Rosters,
  • You click one of the three options - generally you"ll be using Enter new Score/Update - this starts the scoring loop:
    1. Click the Stage - 1st inning, 2nd half, overtime, final, etc"
    2. Click the Team that scored or that the comment is about,
    3. Click the player - if no roster is present, click Other Player (also see How do I enter or edit a roster?)
    4. Click General/Summary Comments or the Score (note: you can change the entered score prior to submitting)
    5. Click the Action - these are "canned" comments to reduce your typing on the mobile,
    6. Confirm/Update Scores - you can change the scores at this point
    7. Ready to Submit to Your Site? - This is your last chance to edit before you submit the score. You can also edit or add to the comments.
    8. Click OK - the Score or Update has been submitted.
    9. Now you"re back at Current Match Summary and read for another Score or Update.
Enter BASIC Update is very similar, there are fewer choices and the roster is not presented" a very quick method to update the score or make a quick comment.
How do I enter or edit a roster on the mobile?
First, get to the game you are going to score as outlined above. At Current Match Summary screen, scroll to Edit Roster and click.
Click on the team you want to update. If no names appear, it indicates that a roster has not been entered. Click on Menu (this may vary from mobile to mobile) and then click on Add Player. You can enter Number, Position and Name.
TIP - depending on the sport, it is sometimes better to simply enter Number and Player as position may change" the roster is meant to reduce typing AND give players recognition.
To edit a player, click on the player, change the information and then Click OK - you may fine OK in the menu or at the lower corners of the screen depending on the mobile device.
Tip - once you"ve made your changes, its best Exit the game you are scoring and then re-enter the game. This allows the changes you"ve made to be re-sent to your mobile. Good things like sorting and making the changes available to everyone in the system result from doing this. Note: Your changes are saved whether you Exit and Re-Enter or not, this just makes it a little easier for you.
To Exit, use your Back key until you are out of the game, you don"t have to exit the application completely. Then Click the game you"re scoring and the exchange between the server and your mobile will be complete.
Tip - One last tip, it is easier to enter Rosters from the PC using the Account Manager - see Account Manager in FAQs.
Why do I need to make the game Final? Making the game Final completes the scoring process. Certain things happen on the server and Fans know that the game is over. Always best to make the game final - easier for you and anyone else scoring.
What if I make a mistake after I"ve submitted the score?
If you make a mistake, you can use the Enter BASIC Update to change the score or change the player mentioned earlier. This will not erase the mistake, but will bring everyone current. No Big Deal.
Additionally, from the Account Manger edits, removal, additions can me made, but this is done from a PC on the internet and generally will need to be done after the contest has ended.
What if I need to take a phone call during the game? Not a problem" answer the phone and when you complete your conversation and close the phone function, your right back in MobileScore.
What if I need to turn my phone off, will I lose everything? NO - all the information is stored on servers, you"ll be able to start right where you left off. If you had to leave mid-game, another scorer can pick up wherever you left off.
What if the game is played where my mobile coverage is spotty? First, that never happens" he he he. But if it does, you just keep scoring. The mobile will store the information until you have enough bars to complete the connection. Fans won"t be able see what"s happening until your mobile connects; but heck, if you"re that far out, the fans are just lucky that they have you.
What if I have more than one account? If you have more than one account, say a MobileScore account for all the teams your son or daughter play on AND a CBS College Sports or USA Rugby account; then you will have separate and different applications on your mobile for each account. In your application or game folder (or wherever you have put them) you"ll a unique icon for each account.

General
What is MobileScore?
MobileScore is an interactive platform that enables the exchange and "broadcasting" of events to small groups of people or to the entire world. Information like scores, rosters, line-ups, statistics, commentary, photos, video, trivia games, blogs are all available for individuals, teams, leagues or entire organizations.
MobileScore is the convergence of information available from any device having data connectivity. A member can access information from their cell phone, pda, smartphone or computer wherever connectivity exists.
How does MobileScore work?
A scorekeeper, a person attending the game or match, enters scores and commentary on their cell phone (note: if wi-fi is available, a PC can also be used, however the cell phone provides virtually unlimited coverage.) The scorekeeping entry takes approximately 15 - 30 seconds and can be as terse or verbose as desired.
The fan simple opens MobileScore on the cell phone or PC and follows the action.
How can I access the scores from the website?
PCs can access scoring information by pointing the browser to http://www.looseheadsoft.com or very often the team, league, or organization will have a MobileScore Score Board on its own web site.
From a cell phone, pda, Blackberry, etc., a mobile version can also be viewed by pointing the cell device's browser to http://www.mobilescore.net/mw
Please be advised that some MobileScore partners may use a specific url for both mobile and non-mobile web pages. Check with your specific organization or visit www.looseheadsoft.com for partner information.
What is the MobileScore Application?
The MobileScore Application is a small, efficient program that keeps you up to date on your chosen teams, events, leagues, etc. You simply open the application and your stored settings log you in and retrieve all the information you want to see. You never miss the action wherever you find yourself.
How do I get the MobileScore Application?
From http://www.looseheadsoft.com simply click on the Download button below the application. Instructions tell you to Text "score" to 32852 (other key words may apply to Partners) or enter your mobile number and then click Send a link to my phone.
What Mobile Phones are supported?
Current phones from AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile are supported; as well as current Blackberrys - phones must have a data plan from the carrier. Verizon, iPhone and other carrier users can access MobileScore using the device's browser http://www.mobilescore.net/mw or a Partner's mobile web pages. Data plans are required.
How difficult is it to be a scorekeeper? I don't want to spend all of my time looking at my phone.
Scorekeeping is easy and fast. The scorekeeper must have the MobileScore Application or access to http://www.mobilescore.net/mw. The scorekeeper must also be authorized to keep score (this avoids unauthorized score or commentary entries) authorization is done through the account manager on http://www.looseheadsoft.com .
After just a couple of score entries, score keeping will take only 15 seconds or so. You simply click on the stage i.e. 1st Qtr, 2nd inning, 2nd period etc., click the team that scored, select the player (if roster has been entered), select a "canned" comment, verify the score, and then one last chance to verify score and change or add any comments... Submit - you're done.

How often must the Scorekeeper make entries
That's completely up to the scorekeeper. She can enter every significant play, enter each score, enter the score at the end of stage i.e. 3rd inning, 1st Qtr etc. or simply enter the final score.
You will find that your excitement comes from relating the action to all the people in your community, family, or team that can't make the game. You are now part of the team, part of the action. Scorekeeping is a gift that you provide.
What if my cell phone connection is intermittent or lost?
If mobile service is intermittent, MobileScore continues to work; scores are stored on the phone until service is resumed. Once connected your information is submitted... you're current!
What are the requirements to be a scorekeeper?
PASSION, PASSION, PASSION
Additionally you'll need a mobile device and data connectivity.
What happens if I forget a few scores or miss a key moment in the match?
Not to worry... MobileScore allows you provide as much or as little coverage as you desire. From play-by-play to just the final score.
If you find that the score has jumped, simply enter the current score and go on from there.
If you didn't give props for a big play or monster score, you can later login to www.looseheadsoft.com and add, update or delete information for that game.
What if there are multiple scorekeepers?
The more the merrier. It's great for redundancy and for providing another point of view. Like having two announcers in the press box - they never see things the same way.
